Really great post.

I think Gmail is one of the greatest free e-mail providers available and reading this article just opens lots of new opportunities for others who wanted to keep the same functions as gmail offers in their professional mail.

So it’s the same process, just done differently. I have my mail forwarded directly from my URL control panel. This mail fetcher thing will go out and fetch it from your URL control panel. Interesting. There really is an app for everything these days ;-)

Thanks for writing this up. More people need to realize that their @yahoo.com">mybiz@yahoo.com email address leaves them looking unprofessional and it’s simple process to go official.

Katy, what you are describing IS the gmail mail fetcher. It’s also the same process I described above and which I have been using for quite some time now. But I also didn’t know there was an official name for this until I wrote the post :-)

I’ve seen quite a bit of talk on the web lately about using Google Apps to allow you to use Gmail for domain/web mail. I have to wonder though…why not just go into your domain and forward your email to gmail and then set up gmail from there?

I have at least 5 websites (all with at least 3 emails each) forwarding into my Gmail. I can access them all from any computer including my phones (even have my iPhone set with gmail as my master email service).

You’re also able to set the account so that you can reply from the account that the email was sent to. So if you send to my biz account, I automatically reply from my biz account, not my personal account. And whenever I initiate to compose a new email, I’m given a pull-down menu of all the accounts I have set up.

It seems like the app method works great for you, it’s just making me wonder if folks don’t know how simple it is to set it all up with an app. Looks like I have a new blog topic coming up later this week. ;-)
